Peterborough College Welcome Peter Kyle, Shadow Secretary of State for Science and Technology and Andrew Pakes, Labour’s Candidate for Peterborough

Peterborough College, part of the Inspire Education Group, proudly hosted a visit from Peter Kyle, the Shadow Secretary of State for Science and Technology, on Friday 31st May. The visit showcased the College’s ongoing projects, emphasising its commitment to innovation and educational excellence in the East of England.

Peter Kyle was accompanied by Andrew Pakes, Labour’s candidate for Peterborough. This high-profile delegation was welcomed by Louise Perry, Chief Financial Officer of Inspire Education Group.

The visit commenced with an introduction to the College’s recent developments and strategic initiatives, providing insights into the new building projects and recent investments in innovative teaching and learning resources and technologies.

Following the meeting, the delegation undertook a visit to the new Centre for Green Technology’s construction site. Roger Bancroft, Site Manager from Cleggs Construction, guided the tour, showcasing the latest development work on the cladding and insulation. Louise Perry elaborated on the curriculum planned for the new centre, designed to deliver green technology skills to students preparing to enter the construction industry.

One of the visit’s highlights was a demonstration of the College’s future classrooms developed in collaboration with Google. As a newly designated Google Reference College, Peterborough College has integrated state-of-the-art conferencing facilities that enable one teacher to instruct multiple classes simultaneously. This immersive technology room stands as a testament to the college’s forward-thinking approach to education.

Peter Kyle said: “The new Green Technology Centre at Peterborough College will be a brilliant place for students to learn the skills needed for the jobs of the future.”

Andrew Pakes, Labour’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Peterborough, said: “As the UK transitions to a brighter, greener, future, the jobs in clean technologies will be highly skilled and students in Peterborough will be ready to compete with the best in the world to secure these roles.
